Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because, as a child, I struggled in school and often felt unsure of myself as a learner. I can still remember the specific teachers who took the time to support me, believe in me, and never gave up on me. Their patience, encouragement, and kindness made a lasting impact on my confidence and success. I wanted to be that same person for my students—someone who sees their potential, builds relationships, and helps them realize they are capable of more than they think.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was supporting a student as they discovered what helps them learn best. Over time, they began to recognize that they were more focused and confident when they were on their medication. It was powerful to watch them come to that realization on their own while I supported and encouraged them every step of the way. Seeing their growth in both self-awareness and confidence was incredibly meaningful and reminded me how important it is to support the whole child.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded the $25,000, I would use it to support both my classroom and my students. I would invest in resources and materials that enhance learning, as well as set aside funds to help meet students’ individual needs. I would also use part of it for professional development so I can continue growing as an educator and better support my students.
