Tell us why you became a teacher

After my grade nine Social Studies teacher crushed my confidence by telling me I’d never succeed in my chosen career path, I felt a calling to become a teacher myself—one who empowers students to reach their dreams rather than standing in their way. Beyond the students, I have found deep fulfillment in supporting my peers. Mentoring colleagues to help them recognize their own brilliance and potential has been incredibly rewarding. By motivating other educators to see their worth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

In the classroom, I’ve learned to embrace the humor and spontaneity of young learners. One of my most memorable momenis sitting on the carpet for kindergarten calendar time, where a student decided to cuddle my leg. He spent the rest of the lesson fascinated by the texture of my pantyhose, "petting" my leg because he loved how the hair poked through. It was a hilarious reminder of the raw, unfiltered bonds you build with students at that age.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to create a "Student Equity Fund" to cover costs for extracurricular activities, field trips, or grade 7 graduation expenses for those in need. I also have a vision of creating a Mental Health Hub by establishing a dedicated space for social-emotional learning or wellness, providing a sanctuary for both students and staff. Finally, I would like to go on a learning trip to visit other Science and Technology schools and bring those practices back to my own building.
