Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help students see that math isn’t something to fear. Growing up, I saw how many students believed they “weren’t math people.” I wanted to change that mindset. Teaching lets me encourage students, build their confidence, and show them that with effort and support they can succeed in challenging things.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was when a student who struggled with math all year solved a problem on the board and the class cheered for him. His smile said everything. In that moment he realized he could do math. Watching a student’s confidence change like that reminds me why teaching matters far beyond just numbers.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest the money directly into my students and classroom. I would purchase hands-on math tools, flexible seating, and engaging technology that helps students visualize concepts. I would also create math enrichment opportunities so students can explore problem solving in creative ways and build confidence in their abilities.
