Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I grew up admiring teachers, especially my mom. Because she was a teacher, I always had the utmost respect for the profession. As I got older, I developed a passion for helping children and showing them new perspectives. I intentionally incorporate culture and diversity into my classroom because students need exposure to the world to be prepared for it as thoughtful citizens. I always remember, we teach children first and content second. My job brings me so much joy.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was surprising a former student at her new school. When she saw me, she ran to the door crying and told her class I was her mom, even though I had only been her teacher. That moment showed me how strong our bond was. It reminded me that teaching is more than academics, it’s about making students feel loved, seen, and supported long after they leave your classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I would use it to create meaningful, lasting change for both my students and my family. I would update my classroom to make it a safe, welcoming, and engaging space where students feel excited to come each day and ready to learn, because I believe environment shapes success. I would also set aside a portion for my three-year-old son’s college fund to invest in his future opportunities. Lastly, I would use some of it to help my husband and me save toward purchasing a home.
