Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after entering my niche field of special education because I fell in love with the beautifully authentic students that I serve and the creativity and effort required to build trusting and meaningful relationships with them and their families.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Years ago, as a paraprofessional, I sat beside a student reading The Rainbow Fish. The pages shimmered in the light. He paused, studied the picture, and asked, “Ashee, what colors?” In that simple question, I saw the world through his eyes — reflective, curious, beautifully unique. I wasn’t just teaching him to read; he was teaching me to see. In that moment, I knew I wanted to devote my life to being part of that extraordinary perspective.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off my student loans.
