Learn MoreMy inspiration to become an ESL teacher began with my early experiences seeing how language shapes a person’s ability to connect with others. In middle school, I had a friend who spoke very little English and communicated mostly in Taiwanese. Watching her struggle to express herself and participate in conversations opened my eyes to how isolating a language barrier can be. At the same time, it showed me how meaningful even small efforts to communicate can be.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceSeveral years ago I had a student who was served for his language as well as in special education due to his academics being behind. I will never forget the first time he read a book on his own! He was so proud and in the 3rd grade by this time but he carried the book through school and read it to any teacher that would listen.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would pay off any debt my family has and use the rest as a down payment to purchase a home for my family.
