Tell us why you became a teacher

After a few years in retail, it was time for a change. My wife said I would make a great elementary teacher, so I went back to school for my teaching degree. Best decision ever! I love my job, I love coming to work every day and seeing the faces of all the kids, I love when they come up to me wanting to know what's next. As a science teacher, I am trying to create a group of forever learners, and that means making learning fun while also making sure they are getting the knowledge they need.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are so many "little" moments that make me the teacher I am today. That said, there was a moment that touched me in a way no other has. A few years ago, there was a letter in my mailbox from a former student that I had in 4th grade. She was getting ready to graduate high school, and reached out to me to share how much I helped her become the success she was. That letter affirmed that I was a successful teacher. I still have it and read it whenever I'm feeling like I need a boost!

What would you do with the $25,000?

In an effort to make learning fun, I often pour a LOT of money into my classroom materials. Much of that 25K would go into items to continue to enhance the learning experience. That said, having put so much into my classroom, a little of that money would go to things that have been neglected at home for my own family. Spread the wealth!
