Tell us why you became a teacher

It is important to me to make a significant and meaningful difference in the future of our country. I started teaching Pre-School for two years to get the fundamentals of human development to take to middle school and beyond- we are all kids at heart, so learning how to nurture their inner children while helping them to become adults is something that became essential to my pedagogy. This helps my students be confident, empathetic and proud of themselves as human beings first, students second.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience had to be my first year teaching middle school. I went into my first year, feeling very confident and ready- preparing my classroom in July when the rest of the school was empty. The bond that I made with my kids that first year was so strong because they knew how much I cared about them and vice versa. That year was so memorable because the school voted me teacher of the year. I am extremely proud of this since that was my first year teaching middle school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

It would literally change my life. I would love to use part of it buy journals for my students to practice mindfulness throughout their lives. I don't make a lot teaching, but I invest all that I can into my room and my kids. I could also pay off my credit card debt completely and would put part of it towards my masters and doctorate degrees. I am 6 classes away from my masters degree in psychology which I have been pursuing throughout my teaching career as a middle school teacher.
