Tell us why you became a teacher

I never imagined in my life to become a teacher. Because of financial constraints, and coming from a big family, I don’t know if I can finish college. I was deeply inspired by one of my former teachers in high school, who made a lasting impact on my life. He didn’t just teach the subject—he truly cared about his students, took the time to explain concepts clearly, and encouraged me to believe in my abilities even when we struggled. He is one my principal sponsors in our wedding.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most memorable experiences in my teaching career happened outside the classroom when my former students messaged me and came back to visit me and had been a few years since they were in my class, and seeing them again—more mature, confident, and full of life—was incredibly rewarding. They shared stories about their journeys in high school and college, the challenges they had overcome, and the goals they were now pursuing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am a dedicated teacher with 22 years experience and an international teacher from the Philippines. This is my 3rd year in the United States and recognized as teacher of the year from my school. I will be buying schools supplies and will be donated to teachers in public schools. I will be putting some to my oldest (college expenses) because she will be graduating in high school this May 22. It is equally meaningful to see my kids happy and enjoying their new life here,
