Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt it was my purpose to inspire and encourage students to grow beyond their current circumstances. I want to help them see their potential, expand their thinking, and believe that where they start does not limit how far they can go.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During my first year of teaching, I felt I had the most challenging behavior in the building. Once I realized that connecting with my students was just as important as teaching them, that year—and that group of students—became the most memorable and rewarding of my career.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would enhance learning in a Title I school by providing high-quality instructional materials, diverse classroom libraries, and hands-on learning resources. I would also support tutoring, enrichment programs, and social-emotional learning initiatives that help close learning gaps, build confidence, and create engaging, equitable experiences for all students.
