Learn MoreAs a child, I dreamed of many careers, from dolphin trainer to FBI agent. In High School and College I worked with kids in different capacities. However I pursued a degree in criminal justice and worked for the State Police, but I wasn’t fulfilled. After leaving I worked with foster youth and discovered my true passion was helping children grow. I returned and got my teaching certificate. My passion now is sparking my students' curiosity; enabling them to think critically; and feel inspired.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceDuring an IB unit students viewed a picture depicting equality vs equity. This activity led to discussions, and questions about adversities and prejudices such as poverty, race, illnesses, and disabilities. Students began to inquire and research people from around the world that have experienced and overcame adversities or prejudices. To take action the students decided on their own to make things equitable for classmates at school who face adversities by collecting school supplies for them.
What would you do with the $25,000?With $25,000, I would enhance our Live Learning Labs with hands-on materials and real-world tools that bring learning to life. I would invest in STEM resources, diverse books, more flexible seating, and project-based supplies that spark curiosity and critical thinking. My goal is to continue to create an engaging environment where students feel inspired to question, explore, and grow as confident, lifelong inquirers.
