Andrew Delcamp

Teaching is my passion: whether we’re debunking the "cost of living" in Math or uncovering ancient truths in Mythology. Knowledge is power.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up, school was my respite while my mother fought cancer. A teacher named Mr. Smith taught me to break life’s "full nelson," sparking a confidence that eventually led me 1,500 miles from home. Though I started in mental health, I realized my heart belonged in the classroom. Now, I create the safe space I once needed for my neurodiverse students. Seeing them find their own strength inspired me to finally become a fully licensed special education teacher in 2025.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My favorite memory is transforming my Math of Personal Finance class into a real-world simulation. Initially, my 12th graders begged for a "simple test" over life’s expenses, but the project changed everything. Students began bringing in their own paystubs and budgeting for cars. One student even used our class budget planner to map out trade school, allowing them to graduate with a cosmetology license debt-free. Seeing them use my class as a literal roadmap to independence is why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d balance my classroom passions with long-term security. As a collector, I’d invest $3,000 in LEGO sets to bring more Mythology and hands-on Math to life. Practicing what I teach in Personal Finance, I’d allocate $10,000 to my child’s future education and $6,000 to max out my IRA. Finally, I’d put $6,000 toward a reliable car to replace my dying one. This windfall would ensure my family’s stability while fueling the creative environment my students love.
