Andrea Sullins

I love being a teacher because I get the opportunity to be on my students’ team! To be the one they know will always be there for them.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher, because learning was a hard process for me. With learning not coming natural, my educational success was greatly impacted by my teachers’ willingness to engage with me. This pushed me to want to be a teacher that students could count on.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One day my students and I were discussing what it felt like to feel welcome and how to be a welcoming person ourselves. When asked who they felt the most welcome with, so many students said me. That warmed my heart so much. It’s one of my main goals as an educator. If my students feel welcome, everything else falls into place.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest this money back into my small micro school. We are trying to create a gardening program for our students to learn how to grow and harvest and their own food.
