Andrea Brown

Even on the hardest days, there is always at least one special moment with kid. That is what makes a difference and keeps me going.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to help children reach their full potential and prepare them for their next phase in life whatever that might be. I also wanted to teach students about all the opportunities that are out there in the world that they might not be aware of.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One memorable experience is, I had a student who struggled with emotional and physical disabilities. One day I noticed her notebook her handwriting significantly changed, normally she had beautiful writing but then over night it was barely legible. Thank goodness I noticed because, she ended up having to have treatments etc, but during that time myself and all of her teachers rallied to make sure she had everything she and her family needed, and now she is going to pursue nursing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would get supplies my school desperately need, like a new marquee sign out front (ours has been broken for over a year) supplies that we run low on for the teachers. And maybe if there is some extra a down payment on a reliable car I get to work in.
