Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an English Language Learner teacher because I believe language is more than words—it is confidence, connection, and opportunity. Every day, I have the privilege to respect the unique stories my students bring, accept their journeys with empathy, and admire their courage as they find their voices. Watching their progress reminds me that true growth happens when people feel seen, valued, and empowered. Teaching is not just my profession; it is my way of opening doors and building bridges.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was watching Henry cross that graduation stage after four years of ups, downs, fun, tears, and everything in between. His journey reminded me so much of my book Take Me Home—how growth isn’t a straight path, but a winding road filled with detours, doubt, and determination. Just like the heart of Take Me Home, Henry’s story was about finding confidence, belonging, and the courage to keep going.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were blessed to win the $25,000, I would divide it with intention and gratitude. A meaningful portion would go toward supporting my girls through college—helping ease the financial pressure so they can focus on learning, dreaming big, and building their futures. Another portion would go right back into my community, supporting local programs and students who just need a little extra encouragement and opportunity to thrive.
