Tell us why you became a teacher

Kids are challenging and after one college summer of coaching I saw how amazing it is to watch kids catch on to new topics and accomplish something they could be proud of. Being able to participate in a kids journey and experience that moment when they do something new do the first time or show improvement is not easy to describe- it’s something you have to experience as a person.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One year I had a kid, still remember his name, who everyone warned me about and was not performing on grade level. The kid came in with a look on his face daring anyone to challenge him. Told him I didn't know who he was and was happy to have him in my class. We celebrated every time he showed improvement. Soon, he and his mom started a tally system and would bring ME a treat each time he showed academic improvement. He became one of the leaders in my class and ended the year on level.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 4 children of my own, $25,000 would be a great investment into education funds for my kids. Education is big in our house, obviously, but this would go a long way to invest and grow their futures. Whether they want to do trade school or college, I want them to have a way to pursue their own dreams.
