I love teaching because I help students find their voice, think critically, and realize they’re capable of more than they ever imagined.

I became a teacher because I truly loved English Language Arts—the power of stories, words, and ideas. I wanted to share that passion. But once I stepped into the classroom, I realized it was about so much more. It’s about building confidence, helping students find their voice, and walking alongside them as they grow into who they’re becoming. Teaching isn’t just about content—it’s about connection, impact, and shaping futures.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable moments was watching a quiet student who believed he “wasn’t good at English” find his voice during an argumentative writing unit. When he shared his thesis, the room went silent—his words were powerful and thoughtful. By the end of the year, he was leading discussions. Seeing his confidence grow reminded me that teaching is about helping students believe in themselves.
What would you do with the $25,000?With $25,000, I would invest directly in my students, building a diverse classroom library, and creating hands-on learning experiences that bring literature to life. I’d also fund college and career readiness opportunities, from guest speakers to field experiences, so my students can see what’s possible beyond our classroom walls.
