From a young age, I knew I was called to teach. My mom worked as a school aide, and I saw firsthand the impact educators make. My second grade teacher made me feel safe and loved; my third grade teacher made me feel small and anxious. I chose to be the warm memory, not the belly ache. For 13 years in first grade, I've followed my passion-loving kids well and making a positive difference in their world.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment happened last year on the final day of school when my entire class broke down in tears. Teachers came to check on us, but the tears reflected connection and belonging. Since then, invitations to graduations, heartfelt letters, emails, and a "community hero" nomination remind me that small moments create big impact and show I truly made a difference.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I once swam with whale sharks to spark my students’ sense of wonder. I turn real-world adventures—like exploring Mayan pyramids—into powerful classroom connections. With $25,000, I would travel to learn from global education systems and bring back innovative practices, cultural experiences, and hands-on resources. Recharged and inspired, I’d transform curiosity into unforgettable learning that creates lasting connections that spark curiosity and joy.
