I became and elementary teacher because I believe strong relationships help children grow academically and emotionally. By creating a supportive classroom, I aim to build students’ confidence, encourage curiosity, and help each child feel valued. Watching students believe in themselves, take risks and discover their strengths is what inspires me every day as an educator!

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was being name Teacher of the Year. But, I still remember a hands on 5th grade “Eating Fractions” lesson that made learning joyful and meaningful for my students. The greatest reward has been seeing former students achieve success beyond my classroom—pursuing art in college, becoming college athletes, attending Ivy League schools, impacting community through activism and even returning to education as teachers themselves.

I plan to use the $25,000 to enhance learning in the art room through technology, innovative materials and expanded supplies that inspire creativity and exploration. Investing in digital tools would allow students to experience modern art techniques while building real-world skills. Funds would also support professional development at SCAD, helping me bring new ideas, techniques and inspiration back to my students.
