Learn MoreI became a teacher because I enjoy learning new things, and being a teacher gives me the opportunity to learn as well as teach. I originally wanted to be a Shakespearean actress, but teaching called to me, and I can't imagine being anything else. I am inspired by my 9th grade students, and their zest for life. I always knew that I was creative and patient, and that I loved kids, but once I became a teacher, every aspect of my life clicked, and I felt complete.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is when I introduced my Shakespeare to my freshmen students. We learn Shakespearean Insults as an introduction to the Capulet and Montagues intense family feud, and then we have an "Insult Battle". Watching them become so energized and involved in the language and the activity is incredible. Even kids who are shy awaken with competitive spirit.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would use the money to expand the opportunities in my personal and professional life. I would also like to donate money to teenage suicide awareness, as we lost a great kid from our class this year.
