Amanda Vione

I always wanted to be a teacher when I was younger. I would always play school with friends where I would be the teacher. Now, it’s my job!

Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always loved working with children. Growing up, I babysat, worked as a camp counselor, and helped care for my younger cousins, which showed me how much I enjoyed supporting kids and helping them learn. My biggest inspiration was my 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Dougherty. She created a warm, supportive classroom and always believed in her students. Seeing the impact she had made me realize how powerful teaching can be and inspired me to become an educator.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experiences are when I hear from students I have taught in previous years. It means so much to me when they come back to visit or reach out and tell me how much they miss being in our class. I love hearing that they still use the strategies and skills I taught them during that year. It's rewarding to know that something I taught continues to help them even after they have moved on to the next grade.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to help pay for my wedding. I would be incredibly grateful for the opportunity to put the money toward creating a special day that my fiancé and I will remember for the rest of our lives.
