Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of children beyond academics. I want my classroom to be a place where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Watching students grow in confidence, overcome challenges, and realize what they are capable of is the most rewarding part of my job. Knowing that I can help shape their love of learning and help them believe in themselves is why I chose this profession.

One of my most memorable teaching moments was watching my classroom community support a classmate who was struggling with an assignment. Instead of getting impatient, several students quietly stepped in to help explain the problem and encourage their classmate to keep trying. If I were fortunate enough to win the $25,000, I would use it to give back to my students and classroom. I would invest in materials and resources that make learning more engaging and accessible for all students, including hands-on learning tools and flexible seating. I would also use part of the funds to create memorable classroom experiences that help students feel celebrated and valued.
