I love being an art teacher for the lightbulb moments, students’ creativity, and tackling design & medium challenges together.

I chose to be a visual arts teacher to help students discover their voice, build confidence, and think creatively. Art offers a space where all learners can succeed, take risks, and express ideas in meaningful ways. Guiding students through that process—watching them grow, problem-solve, and find pride in their work—is what inspires me every day.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable experiences has been watching a student enter my required 7th grade class shy and unsure of themselves, then grow through artmaking into a confident young adult. Over time, they found their voice, took creative risks, and began to truly believe in their abilities. Seeing that transformation reinforced how powerful art can be in shaping identity and confidence.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest in diverse art materials, digital tools, and photography equipment. Funds would support classroom upgrades like storage, equipment, and outdoor seating for open-air creating. I would also fund visiting artists, field trips to museums, and student exhibitions to connect learning to real-world art experiences.
