I became a teacher because I love helping children grow academically and emotionally while feeling seen and valued. As a Hispanic teacher, I am the representation many of my students have never had. I needed someone to look up to who looked like me, so I strive to be that role model. I am transparent about my struggles, setbacks, and growth so students see that success comes from perseverance and never giving up.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was helping a struggling student gain confidence. He often avoided work and felt he wasn’t “smart enough.” By building a relationship, celebrating small wins, and showing him his strengths, he began to try harder and participate more. The proud look on his face when he completed a challenging task independently showed me the power of patience, connection, and believing in students before they believe in themselves.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I’d use the $25,000 to support students academically and emotionally like funding resources, tech, SEL programs, and diverse books to help them feel seen. This would help my Student Council program become state known. It would also help with my counseling degree, allowing me to reach and guide even more students, giving them the support and motivation I know can truly change lives.
