Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after starting my career in corporate event planning. While I was achieving professional goals, I didn't feel connected to & wasn't giving back to my community in a meaningful way, & much of my effort ultimately felt like it was centered on increasing profits for executives rather than serving people in a lasting way. I returned to grad school to earn my Master's in Education & became an elementary teacher where I can support young learners and make an impact on my community.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are too many to count but one that stands out is after being diagnosed with breast cancer, the students, teachers and community rallied around me with unwavering support. Their cards, meals, and daily encouragement reminded me that teaching is rooted in relationships.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use some of it to fund certain before and after school initiatives at my school, invest some of it for future planning, and take my family on a vacation!
