Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to show that no matter their circumstances, they can overcome challenges and create a bright future for themselves. I want my classroom to be a place where history feels alive and meaningful, not just dead people. By connecting the past to everyday life, I hope that students see how exciting and relevant history truly is, and realize that they are history in the making and they have the power to shape the future, in powerful ways.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience had to be during the 2022–2023 school year. I was teaching students about monarchies and connecting them to presidencies when, all of a sudden, a student asked if they could elect a class president. I said, of course. That one idea snowballed into them creating a constitution, holding a presidential debate, and electing a president and vice president for each class period. I was so proud to see them actively acting out and applying what they were learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I know it might sound a little selfish, but I would use the money to pay off my student loans first. After that, I would invest the remaining funds for my future child so it can grow over time. My hope would be that it builds interest and helps set them up for a stable and successful future.
