Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of the incredible educators who shaped my life. In high school, my involvement in FFA sparked a passion for agriculture and science. My teachers were more than instructors, they were mentors who invested in me and inspired my growth. Their impact showed me the power of education, and I knew I wanted to inspire, mentor, and empower students the same way they did for me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience has been leading hands-on learning in animal science. I managed a flock of sheep that allowed students to practice vaccinations, blood draws, lambing support, and routine health care. Watching students grow from hesitant to confident while working with large animals is incredible. Seeing them gain real-world skills that they can carry into college and careers reminds me why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would use the funds to pay down student loan debt so I can continue focusing fully on my students and program. I would also invest in meaningful professional development, conferences, certifications, and hands-on industry experiences that strengthen my “toolbox” as an educator. By growing my skills and network, I can bring back richer learning opportunities and deeper real-world connections for my students.
