I love teaching, social emotional learning as a school psychologist because our society needs it more now than ever.

Tell us why you became a teacher

Although I’m not technically a teacher, but a school psychologist, I became a school psychologist because I struggled with spelling and social anxiety growing up. I want to be there for the kids, who “ fall through the cracks”. My goal is to bring warmth, comfort, and a little magic back into the school system.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This year I stepped out of the traditional school psychologist role and into the classroom to teach social emotional learning. My most memorable teaching experience has to be when one of my students (4th grade) told me they were considering suicide and the next day they met me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the prize money, I will focus on getting my license, build my sensory collection for students, and gather more calming resources that a public school district does not have the resources to provide. I would also like to dedicate some of the resources to help me build tools and curriculums that I could give to other teachers that they can access with little to no prep time.
