Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always wanted to be a teacher since a very young age. I had amazing educators in my past who influenced me to want to learn as well as to teach others. Becoming a teacher was a dream that I realized after going back to school 30+ years later. I believe for myself teaching is a higher calling because I want children to learn not only math reading social studies, science social skills… But they are capable of anything that they put their minds to.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

For me, my most memorable teaching moment has been to witness a former student who struggled with anxiety and feeling like no one cared, or would listen to his feelings, to now blossoming and understanding how to express his feelings and his fears in a more positive manner. Him coming to me recently and telling me thank you for everything I did for him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were to win the $25,000, I would first get back to my school to my students. Many of my students don’t have access to books or tools for learning while at home. I would also set aside money towards my grandchildren’s education. I think giving back to education into others who are learning is very important.
