Tell us why you became a teacher

Under the inspiration of Mr. Hirnyk in 5th grade and Mr. Bannon in 6th grade, I knew that I was going to go into education. They were two completely different types of teachers, but both made an impact in my life. One was strict, but fair. The other was chummy, but also fair. Both kept expectations high even though the paths to that were very different.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is actually out of school. I went to a local sandwich shop in the spring and it was my lunch break on a half day. I walked in and I thought I knew the girl behind the counter and she kind of recognized me too. Samantha took my order and said, "Mr. Peterson?" I knew it was her right from her voice. She asked me if I still taught in Orleans and I said yes. She said, "That is great to hear that great teachers are still there."

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would put some away for own kids but also set some aside for my school to assist in programming for winter clubs. We have not had winter clubs in some time and I would donate money to get that program back and running for my students and the school as a whole.
