Alisha McElrath

I love teaching because I get to have fun all day at work…except grading but what can you do. And my students are the best they make my day

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I truly enjoy learning and I want to share that with my students. Learning a foreign language really opens up the world and I want to share that with others. I also enjoy watching the growth that happens from the August to June and being able to say I helped them make that growth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience thus far has been watching one of my Spanish students have a conversation in Spanish with a new student that only spoke Spanish. The look of excitement and her shrieking “did you see that! He understood me! And I knew what he was saying! That was so cool!” They tell me all the time when they get to use Spanish outside the classroom but getting to see them in action made my teacher heart so proud.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would build my classroom library, purchase the tables and chairs I want for seating in my classroom and put the rest towards cultural field trips for my students.
