I became a teacher because math always came naturally to me, and I love helping students experience the “a-ha” moment when it finally makes sense.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Here’s a more emotional version (still under 500 characters): One of my most memorable teaching experiences was helping a high school student understand completing the square. He stayed after school for 2–3 hours determined to learn the concept. The next day during the test he panicked, thinking he didn’t know what to do. I suggested he start on the last page—the section we practiced. His face immediately lit up, he said, “I know this!” and dove right in. He aced that section!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received $25,000, I would invest it in resources and support that help students build confidence in math. Too many students grow up believing they are “bad at math.” I would use the funds to create after-school support opportunities, provide engaging classroom tools, and help students experience those “a-ha” moments when math finally clicks. My goal is to help students leave my classroom believing they are capable and confident problem-solvers.
