Tell us why you became a teacher

I teach to inspire others to reach new heights! I feel empowered when I help people grow, discover something new, or realize their potential. I love being the one my students turn to whether they need support, want to share learning, or simply new thoughts. I pour my heart into teaching, supporting my students’ growth, and collaborating with colleagues in meaningful ways. I want to grow kind, empathetic learners who know how wonderful they are…and that all starts in kindergarten!!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

During small group phonics, one of my multilingual learners (who was new to our classroom and shy) looked up at me with a huge smile and said, “Mrs. Abbadie, letter t!” Her voice was both courageous and happy. My heart grew and my eyes became watery in that moment! Knowing she felt safe, confident, and empowered enough to speak made me feel incredibly grateful and reminded me exactly why I love teaching. These moments are what teaching is all about.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to help make an impact by donating to a community relief program that provides assistance to families affected by childhood illness. My husband and I also love to travel and would be happy planning a new adventure together for our upcoming 1st wedding anniversary! :)

Colossal is a nationally registered professional fundraiser that inspires people to advocate for themselves and those in need. Through online competitions like America's Favorite Teacher, Colossal offers participants the opportunity to make their mark while also making a big impact.
