Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I’ve seen how one caring adult can change a child’s path. I wanted to be the teacher I needed growing up, someone who listens, believes in you, and reminds you that you’re capable, even on hard days. There’s nothing more meaningful to me than watching a student discover their confidence and realize they’re stronger and smarter than they thought.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was with a student who struggled both behaviorally and academically. Some days were exhausting, and it felt like nothing I tried was working. Instead of focusing only on the behavior, I focused on building a real relationship. Slowly, the walls came down. The day they finished an assignment on their own and looked at me with pride is a moment I’ll never forget.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, it would go straight back to my classroom. I teach at a Title 1 school, where many of my students rely on us for more than just academics. I spend a significant amount of my own money to provide hands on activities and materials that make learning meaningful and engaging. This funding would allow me to give my students the experiences they deserve without having to choose between impact and affordability.
