Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves to feel capable, valued, and deeply understood. As a teacher and leader, I strive to build a classroom community where students feel safe to take risks and proud of their progress. Watching my students gain skills, advocate for themselves, and shine in ways others may have underestimated — that is why I became a teacher. It’s not just a career; it’s a calling.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was the first time I taught a student with autism on the alternative curriculum how to read. She had been a student who was now 12 years old, and she finally was able to read a Kindergarten level text.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to contribute to the student led snack cart I run with my ASD unit. Additionally, I would purchase sensory equipment for my school to create a more inclusive experience in the fine arts classrooms. Any money left over, I would use towards improving my home.
