Tell us why you became a teacher

I had many influences all throughout school, many of which were my teachers! They made me want to come to school each day and enjoy learning. As I got older, I knew that teaching is where the Lord was calling me to be. I want to be there for my students, a reason they want to come to school each day, and make learning enjoyable for them. I love showing them new things and watching their little light bulbs go off. As a science teacher, it is so fun when they make connections to what we learning.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There’s so many, but one would have to be previous students coming back to see me. Once they’ve moved up, I don’t see them every day. Having them come back to see me, usually at the most random times, to tell me something important happening in their life or to just say hello is so heart warming. Those moments remind me why I’m in this.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With some of the money, I would definitely take a vacation! I would also spend a good amount on my classroom for science lab materials and such. I would like to make a donation to some programs in our area that help our students who are less fortunate. Also cannot forget some new teacher clothes! Anything left would more than likely go toward savings for a house.
