Learn MoreGrowing up, I always knew I wanted to make a difference and work with people. I enjoyed working with kids and became a big sister when I turned to six. I think having a baby sister at that time played a critical role in my wanting to become a teacher. We used to play school on the weekends. I would ask my teachers for extra copies of worksheets and I always took attendance. We even had snack time! I also had so many fantastic teachers that I looked up to and wanted to emulate.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceWow, it’s challenging to think of just one. However, one that comes to mind is when I had a student in my class who was having a challenging time socially. He often got into arguments with other students, & it became increasingly difficult to choose a good spot for him in the room. One day I moved his desk right next to mine. I didn’t necessarily think of it as a privilege at the time but when he saw his desk was moved he said “I GET to sit next to you?” It was so heartwarming & eyeopening.
What would you do with the $25,000?Honestly, I would likely save most of it, spend a little on myself and put some back into my classroom for sure! I am always looking for ways to improve the room for my students whether that is adding more flexible seating or comfy cushions, or buying some new books for our classroom library.
