I love working with middle school students and helping them discover their passion. Their enthusiasm keeps me going.

I became a teacher, initially, to help and understand my son. He had a learning disability and I knew there were better ways to help him in the classroom. I had begun working as an aid in his room, which led to subbing. This soon grew into a love of teaching and I went back to school for my credential. After twenty five years, I still enjoy going to class each day and teaching my kids about science and math.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience came from a student who had graduated. Years after leaving my school, he reached out to me. He had to do some sleuthing, as I had transferred schools. When he finally got a hold of me on the phone, he told me he wanted to speak to me because he was going through a rough time. I, he said, was the one person in his life who had been encouraging and made him kept going. That one phone conversation made all the years worth it.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would travel! I would love to see the world that I teach about, especially the glaciers and northern lights. I would also love to upgrade some of the science models in my classroom. $25,000 would keep me in a supply of pencils (which students never have) and classroom treats (Smarties are the best motivators).
