Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in this generation of youth. Many have degraded their abilities and potential, but I’ve listened to their stories of perseverance and I believe they are worth writing. It’s these stories that shape our society and these are the stories of leaders, innovators, deep thinkers, problem solvers, and compassionate souls. I want to etch my way into history by being the teacher that helped them write their story.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience has been helping my student tell her story of perseverance. After the death of her mother, she began to write to cope. I suggested for her to write a book about her life and that I would be there to help with editing. She came the next day to tell me she had written 30 chapters and wanted to read them to me. Through tears, she read to me a story of abuse and pain. It was a privilege to know her story and be there to help her tell it.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 25,000, I would fulfill my dream of independently buying my first home by putting down a decent down payment. I would also give to my church’s building project.
