Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe education shapes not only what students know, but who they become. I strive to create a classroom where students feel welcomed, safe, and valued. Teaching science and social studies allows me to spark curiosity and encourage thinking about the world around them. The most rewarding moments are when a concept finally clicks and students gain confidence in their abilities and begin to see themselves as capable humans.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as a teacher happened during my first year when a student gave me a note for Christmas. In the note she wrote that I was her favorite teacher and that I was the only teacher who had ever made her feel smart. That moment meant more to me than she will probably ever know. It reminded me that teaching is about more than academics, it’s about building confidence, making students feel valued, and helping them see their potential.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would upgrade our science lab to create a more engaging, hands on learning environment for my students. I would purchase additional lab equipment, experiment kits, and interactive materials that allow students to explore scientific concepts through real world investigation. These resources can encourage curiosity, collaboration, and understanding while helping students experience meaningful light bulb moments in science.
