Tell us why you became a teacher

I never wanted to be a teacher. School was a struggle for me, and I required the help of many stakeholders to get through. Many small moments in my life have guided me to become a special education teacher; working with students with special needs in elementary school, befriending kids who were clearly different, and working at a summer camp for children and adults with developmental disabilities are just few that made big impacts on my life.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It is hard to single out one moment. I have been blessed to work with 63 students with special needs since I became a teacher. Each student has given many memorable memories of learning, friendship, and growth. Working with this population of students allows me to face new battles daily, and I enjoy each moment that my students grow.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If found deserving to win the $25,000, I would continue my role as a self-contained teacher. My first goal is to have as big a family as possible. My wife and I currently have one daughter (1 year old) and would love to try for our next. Unfortunately, with my current paycheck, expenses for our little girl, and our new home, I have to consider other options in the future.
