Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a meaningful impact on students' lives by fostering curiosity, confidence, and a love for learning. I enjoy helping students connect science to the real world and develop problem-solving skills they’ll use beyond the classroom. Seeing students grow and succeed, especially those who struggle at first, is incredibly rewarding. Teaching challenges me daily, but the opportunity to inspire and support students makes it the most fulfilling career I could imagine.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most unforgettable teaching moments was when I handed out supplies for students to build catapults while learning about simple machines. Dressed in a lab coat, goggles, and a bullseye on my chest, I let them pelt me with mini marshmallows as they tested their designs. Marshmallows flew everywhere—chaos and laughter filled the room! Even the teacher next door joined in, and somehow, a rogue marshmallow jammed her printer. It was hands-on learning at its absolute best!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would make much-needed updates to our home, which was built in the early 80s. A top priority is finishing a space in the basement to create an extra bedroom so my sons no longer have to share a room. This would give them their own space to grow and thrive. The remaining funds would go toward essential home repairs and modernizing key areas to make our home more functional and comfortable for our family.
