Tell us why you became a teacher

"I became a teacher because I see so much of my mom in myself. She was both nurturing and strong, qualities I’ve always admired and strived to embody. She instilled in me a deep sense of responsibility and purpose, and it was her dream to see her daughter lead the way for our female youth. Teaching allows me to nurture young minds, inspire confidence, and empower the next generation to believe in their potential and break barriers. Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Taking my 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade English Language Learners on a college tour to Marist College and SUNY New Paltz has been the most memorable. It gave the young minds a vision of what their future could hold and probably planted seeds of confidence and ambition. Imagine their excitement, curiosity, and maybe even a bit of awe while walking through a college campus, experiencing lunch there, and imagining themselves in that space someday. Moments like this leave a lasting impact.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use some of the money for classroom resources and supplies. Purchase books, and invest in a diverse library in English and students' home languages to build literacy and celebrate their cultures. I would purchase some hands-on learning materials and literacy games. I would also purchase some flexible seating: create a comfortable, inclusive classroom with seating options. Purchase some headphones with microphones for language practice and online activities. Take some family time.
