Tell us why you became a teacher

Back in the 70's the model that was being followed was the sink or swim. (And I sunk :( ) My teacher would laugh at me and tell me she couldn't understand me. Needless to say I didn't want to speak English because I was afraid she would laugh and ground me. Therefore, I was passed from one grade level to another until I was going to be tested for a mental disability. Mrs. Ramirez was an amazing role-model that taught me to read, write, and love English. So now I have my masters and love teaching

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experience was the first time I had a student with Autism. She was scared at the beginning and she needed love, support and someone that believed she could learn and be on grade-level. It was a battle at first, then she learned to trust me and learning flourished.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Wow, that would be amazing to dream. With part of that money, I would definitely take my students to White Sands and allow them to discover and explore fun with white sand. I would definitely take my grandchildren to Germany, so they can see the day and night at the same time. I hear it is an amazing experience and a must do. With the money that would be left, I would pay off one of the credit cards. If I would have money left, I would get a spa day for myself.
