Tell us why you became a teacher

Fifteen years ago, I looked into the eyes of my two young sons and wondered: What kind of future will they have in education? As a mother, I wanted to ensure they had every opportunity to thrive. As an entrepreneur in the corporate world, I saw gaps in the education system that left too many students uninspired and disconnected. That was the moment I made a life-changing decision—to step away from my career and fully immerse myself in the world of education.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments in teaching was supporting a fifth-grade student whose mother was dying of cancer. I gave him a spot by my desk, ensuring he felt seen and supported every day. Beyond academics, I focused on making sure he knew he wasn’t alone. After his mother passed, I remained connected with his family and later taught his siblings. This moment, like many others, reminds me that teaching is about fostering connection—when students feel seen, they thrive.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest every dollar into my vision for the future of education—writing my book and building a platform that empowers students to see themselves as the heroes of their own stories. This isn’t just about learning; it’s about transforming education into a journey of self-discovery, curiosity, and purpose. Every child deserves to be seen, valued, and inspired. This investment wouldn’t be for me—it would be for them, for their future, and for the legacy of learning.
