Tell us why you became a teacher

For the students…. Every decision I make, every effort I put forth shapes the lives of young learners and the community they will someday lead. To help build something extraordinary- a place where every child can feel seen, supported and inspired to succeed. I feel proud of the work I do day in and day out.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Absolutely an impossible question to answer as cliche as it sounds. I guess now that I’ve been doing this for 19 years I love seeing my students in the community being positive assets. I walk in the grocery store, drive through McDonald’s or go through the car wash and I hear “Hi! Ms. Schlaire. Remember me?” Of course I do. I remember every single smile, bloody nose, unplanned conversation about dinosaurs and the deep conversation whether mermaids are real or not. I remember!

What would you do with the $25,000?

Haha. Is this a loaded question? Am I supposed to do something “that gives back”? Well if I win, I’ll pay off some bills, help my daughter with college tuition, and maybe help my son buy a vehicle. That is all after I enjoy the trip to Hawaii!!
