I love teaching preschoolers as a SLP because I love to witness their language flourish and confidence explode! They teach me more everyday!

I became a Speech Language Pathologist and knew that I only wanted to work specifically with children over 28 years ago. I have worked almost 20 years within the HSE Schools preschool program in Indiana. I provide push-in speech and language services both in a classroom setting and walk-in setting. I love helping my students increase engagement, intentional language use and socialize with their peers. My students truly teach me more about communication than I ever thought could be possible.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is when one of my students had minimal speech sounds in his repertoire at age three, so he started to use a communication device to increase his language understanding and expressive language use. He began to use a communication system. He started to imitate sounds, words, then phrases. Fast forward two years, he no longer requires a communication device to communicate. It is astonishing to see his progress and exhilarating to listen to all of his stories!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would love to use it to start a therapy dog program in our school district. Its very expensive to purchase trained therapy dogs and would live to start a program to use in my therapy within the Preschool classroom program.
