Becoming a teacher is a dream come true. Growing up, I was fortunate to have amazing teachers. I was inspired by their enthusiasm to teach me how to read, write, think, and create. As a kid I would think to myself that I would like to do that someday. Today I get to! My mom worked as a teacher’s aide. Her craftiness and ability to decorate a classroom made me want to have my own classroom to stylize. I now have my own classroom! I get to be the history teacher that I wished for as a student!

My students experience being a soldier at the Western Front during WWI. I bought an arsenal of Nerf blasters and darts to reenact it. Students write letters home sharing their experiences. Letter one is written from boot camp. I act like a drill sergeant and teach them about the war. Letter two, is written after trench warfare. My tables are turned into two opposing trenches. Darts go flying! The last letter written tells their families that they are a casualty of the war. Broken from battle.

As a kid with dreams of being a teacher, my mom drove the family around in a yellow 1980 VW Vanagon Westfalia camper van. I still have it, but it is in dire need of an engine and restoration. That would be amazing to finally get it back on the road to make new memories with my family. I love to surf, but my longboard has seen better days. I would love to buy a new surfboard. But, most importantly I have two incredible kids in high school, and I would love for them to have a college fund.
