Register NowI knew I wanted to be a teacher from time time I was in first grade. I love people. I love learning. I love being at school. I couldn't imagine myself being anything else. People will ask me what I teach. I say, "Students!" I know they are asking what subject I teach, but it is far more than the subject. I teach critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, kindness, curiosity, work ethic, appreciation, and so much more. Where else can you make a greater impact? A life of meaning.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable experiences as an educator took place after leaving my first school. I received a call from a former parent. Their son had been diagnosed with cancer, and was asking for me to come visit him in the hospital. I was in my early 20's, and had never faced something of that magnitude. All I had was comic books, a smile, and time to spend with him. He passed a short time later, but this experience showed me the impact I could have as a teacher just by caring and being there.
What would you do with the $25,000?My wife and I are both educators. With three children, we try to make wise financial decisions so that we not only live within our means, but are able to help others. It would be wonderful to do something "fun" where we wouldn't have to worry so much about the money involved. It would also be great to take some of the money to bless other causes we care about. Selfishly, I'd love to be able to take an art class or two that I'd not usually consider because of the money.
