Tammy Sigler-Delautee

I love teaching because I love spending my days getting 11 year olds excited about science. I love interacting with my students.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because i always loved science and kids. I worked in a lab for 5 years and realized i needed something else. Teaching allowed me to combine my love for science with my love of kids.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was working in a title 1 alternative school in North Carolina. The students were there due to behavior problems and most of them were court ordered to be enrolled in school. They didn’t care about their grades. I entered them in to the Carolina stem challenge and they had to design and build a mouse trap car. With limited supplies the students got excited about science and ended up winning second place. A student who was in foster care was invited to the ceremony in Charlotte.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would plan a trip to Germany to see my nephew.
